Staff Positions

Full-Time Fellowships & Internships
TCS is looking for currently enrolled and recently graduated college students to fill several full-time, paid internships and fellowships throughout the year.

The summer 2008 internship program is now closed to new applicants.

Students interested in applying for a fall internship or full-time fellowship are encouraged to submit their application.

Politically independent, TCS works with members of Congress and the Executive Branch, along with activists of all political philosophies, to cut wasteful government spending and reduce federal subsidies. TCS's dynamic approach bridges the gap between liberals and conservatives to achieve common-sense solutions that streamline government and make a positive contribution for the taxpayers of today and tomorrow.

“Unlike many Hill internships, Taxpayers has given me hands-on experience with American politics. Whether researching appropriations bills, writing policy recommendations, or helping to negotiate an amendment with a Congressmember's staff, Taxpayers provides a realistic perspective of our federal government."

Sagar Ravi,
Research Intern,
Summer 2005

TCS Interns and Fellows will have the opportunity to:

  • Gain a broad perspective and first-hand experience in federal policy-making in Congress and the Executive Branch, media campaigns, and grassroots organizing.
  • Develop their skills in writing, policy analysis, critical-thinking, and political awareness.
  • Work closely with TCS's professional staff to assume real responsibility in a fast-paced environment on Capitol Hill.

TCS Interns and Fellows may apply to work in one or more of the following areas:

  • National Security: Works for a strong military at a reasonable cost, including opposing deployment of costly national missile defense systems and closing excess bases.

  • Water Policy: Works to reform water policy and stop wasteful water projects, including promoting reform of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers into a more fiscally responsible agency.

  • Communications: Conducts outreach to members of the media on timely issues of the day and contacts editorial boards across the country to ensure positive coverage of TCS issues.

  • Resources Policy: Involves work on a wide range of areas including Forest Service Reform, tranportation policy, public lands, and energy issues.

  • Organization Development: Fundraising is the cornerstone of a non-profit, and we invite interested Interns and Fellows to assist our Development Director.

Qualifications and Compensation
Strong written and oral communication skills are essential, as well as an ability to handle a fast-paced working environment. Candidates from all academic disciplines will be considered as long as they have a demonstrated interest in public policy, activism, or one of the areas mentioned above. Candidates interested in working with the Communications Department must have some journalism or writing experience.

To be considered for an Internship position, candidates must be currently enrolled college students. Fellowships are open to recent college graduates. Fellows receive a stipend of $1,250 per month and are usually assigned to work independently on a short-term project.
