The Army Corps of Engineers has many proposed and ongoing projects that waste money.  Halting the Corps' 25 worst projects would save taxpayers more than $6 billion in the next several years. In addition, the Corps currently has a $60 billion backlog of projects that have been authorized, but have not been funded.  However, the Corps' annual construction budget is only $1.4 billion.  At this rate of spending, it would take more than 40 years to build all the projects in the backlog, many of which are questionable or bad.

By prioritizing which projects to build based upon common sense principles and guidelines, the Corps can meet the nation's water development needs while meeting its obligation to American taxpayers for fiscal responsibility.
