Department of Energy Budgets

Despite the dire fiscal straits that have given us a $500 billion deficit, congressional appropriators continue to use the DOE budget as a vessel for their pet pork projects. The FY2004 budget is a world class lard-fest that has been ridiculed by members of Congress and the national media as a bill for "Hooters and Polluters," in reference to an enormous loan guarantee in the bill that would provide for a mall in Louisiana which in turn would house a Hooters restaurant.
