Senate Appropriations Subcommittee Passes Energy & Water Bill—Includes $17 BILLION in Risky Loan Guarantees

July 20, 2010

On July 20, the Senate Energy and Water Development Appropriations Subcommittee approved a whopping $17 billion in new loan guarantees for the Department of Energy; $7 billion for fossil fuel energy and $10 billion for high-risk nuclear reactors.

Today, in a joint letter to the Senate Appropriations Committee, Taxpayers for Common Sense urged members to oppose the inclusion of $17 billion in additional loan guarantee authority to the Department of Energy.

It’s not too late to stop this fiscal train wreck. The Senate full committee MUST withhold from passing such largess due to the inherent risk to the taxpayer and reckless waste of billions in taxpayer dollars!
