DOUBLING DOWN: Taxpayers for Common Sense’s Erich Zimmermann writes in to remind MT that Rick Santorum, who was attacked during Wednesday’s debate for engaging in earmarks during his time in Congress, actually voted twice for the “Bridge to Nowhere” project in Alaska. Mitt Romney dinged the former Pennsylvania senator repeatedly for approving the high-profile earmark, and part of Santorum’s defense was that the language was wrapped into SAFETEA-LU, the last long-term transportation bill. But Tom Coburn proposed an amendment to transfer funds for the famous Gravina Island Bridge to Louisiana projects. Santorum joined 81 other senators in defeating Coburn’s attempt.
