Early this year, Congressman Nick Rahall (D-WV) introduced H.R. 699, the Hardrock Mining and Reclamation Act of 2009. H.R. 699 would reform the anachronistic General Mining Law of 1872 that governs the mining of gold, silver, copper, uranium and other minerals on federal lands. As TCS has previously reported, this bill would bring about much needed reform and help ensure taxpayers receive a fair return for minerals mined on federal lands. Reform of the 1872 Mining Law is essential and we encourage all members of Congress to support legislation that brings this outdated law into the 21st Century.

The following is the lastest list of congressmen who cosponsored the bill.

Rep. Howard Berman (D-CA) Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI)
Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA)
