You may have heard about the $10 million earmark for a Florida highway interchange that Rep. Don Young (R-AK) included the 2005 highway bill. This was done after a developer held a fundraiser for Rep. Young, there were also some other interesting machinations in modifying the description of the project before the bill was sent to the President, too. Well, the local Metropolitan Planning Organization voted this morning to rejecting the funding, and try to work with the local member of Congress Rep. Mack (R-FL) to redirect it to I-75 widening.

This is a great example of community just saying no to wasteful spending from Congress. The Naples News blog (http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2007/aug/17/i75_blog_fight_over_10_million/) of the MPO meeting this morning has some of the details.
