Washington, D.C. – The following is a written statement by Steve Ellis, Vice President of Taxpayers for Common Sense on the President vetoing the $23 billion Water Resources Development Act for 2007.

We applaud the President for vetoing the water projects bill as part of the administration’s effort to restore fiscal sanity to federal investment in water infrastructure.  Congress’ response to the real fiscal challenges facing our nation’s water infrastructure is simply to authorize more projects, instead of ensuring that only the most important and critical projects move forward. By wielding his veto pen to reject this bloated bill, the President is asking Lawmakers to go back to the drawing board and come back with a responsible bill that meets the country’s needs while not sinking our fiscal ship.
