Mission

Founded in 1995, Taxpayers for Common Sense is a 501(c)(3) nonpartisan budget watchdog that serves as an independent voice for American taxpayers. Our mission is to ensure that the federal government spends taxpayer dollars responsibly and operates within its means.

We work with individuals, policymakers, and members of the media to increase transparency; expose and eliminate wasteful subsidies, earmarks, and corporate welfare; and monitor decisionmakers.

What We Want  

1. Government should live within its means.
2. Federal spending decisions must be transparent and merit-based.
3. Federal programs and agencies must be subject to effective oversight, regular evaluation, and independent financial audits.
4. Effective transparency means information is easily accessible, timely, and usable by the general public.
5. Government spending should give the taxpayers the best possible return on their investment.

How to Cut Waste 

1. If it doesn't work, don't fund it; if we don’t need it, don’t buy it.
2. Cut unnecessary subsidies and corporate welfare.
3. Avoid unnecessary long-term liability for the taxpayer.
4. Expose and stop corruption.
5. Don’t just give away government assets.
