Like we needed any other facts to verify that Senator Ted Stevens has had the appropriations committee wired for some time, we used Census data to show that in the last decade, federal spending in Alaska has doubled. In 1996, Alaska received $4.4 billion (inflated to 2006 dollars $5.7 billion) in federal spending and subsidies (click here for the data). Ten years later, in 2006 (which is the latest available data), Alaska received $9.250 billion. This amounts to $13,805 per capita.
