SBInet, the DHS program tasked with providing the fence’s technological elements such as cameras and sensors, received $775 million. Though that would seem a significant reduction from 2008’s estimated expenditures of nearly $2 billion, the administration’s press release says the budget would “ensure $2 billion over two years to continue to construct the most effective mix of current and next generation technology.” How exactly the administration is finding its figures is still unclear at this time, as is the definition of “effective” for this border boondoggle.
