Late last night the Senate completed their work on the Defense Authorization bill, S. 1390.  The bill passed with an overwhelming majority of 87-7.  The amendment filed by Senator Bunning (S.A. 1517) to provide long-term contracting authority for “alternative” fuels that include coal liquids was not included in the final bill.  TCS is pleased to see this risky provision was left by the wayside.  Taxpayers have paid the price in the past subsidizing these costly fuels and should not go down this road again. Read TCS’s letter opposing the amendment and subsidies for synthetic fuels.
