New documents show that Rep Don Young (R-AK) has raised $54,000 for his legal defense fund. This money was raised mainly from Alaskan fishing and construction companies and a few other friends. Rep. Young is facing legal troubles with the Department of Justice on two fronts. First over his connections to VECO, an Alaskan oil services and construction company embroiled in a bribery scandal, and secondly, in relation to his efforts to secure a controversial earmark for the Coconut Road interchange which would have benefited a campaign supporter who owns a significant amount of land around the proposed interchange.
