We caught an ad earlier for the Rose Bowl, excuse us, we mean, the “Rose Bowl presented by Citi”. That’s right, for the first time the Granddaddy of all the bowl games has been tagged by Citigroup - the bank that got $45 billion from taxpayers. Oh and we’re backing $306 billion of potentially bad debt of theirs. With virtually no strings attached.

Of course the Rose Bowl branding is on top of Citigroup’s acquisition of the naming rights to the Mets new stadium “Citi Field.” All this, despite marketing experts claims that naming rights are more about ego than strategic advertising.

So while either the Trojans or the Nittany Lions will be celebrating after the tournament of roses, taxpayers are going to continue to have a fiscal hangover.
