Senate Adds $5.2 Billion in Earmarks to Defense Authorization Bill

The Senate is expected to pass the 2009 Defense Authorization Bill sometime tonight, but to do so they will have to resolve a raucous debate over earmarks. TCS staff have scoured the 2009 defense authorization report and bill and have found 435 earmarks worth $5.2 billion, a big jump in number from last year’s Senate authorization, but a decrease in total value.
