Today, Taxpayers for Common Sense President Ryan Alexander issued a statement on the National Commission for Fiscal Responsibility and Reform vote.

The report received a bi-partisan majority support in an 11-7 vote. All but one of the six commissioners who are not in elected office voted for the report:

"We applaud the commissioners who took their charge seriously and voted in favor of the final proposal as a starting place for Congress to begin a genuine conversation about how to close the spending gap. The members of the 112th Congress who are indeed serious about addressing our fiscal crisis will identify themselves by their willingness to engage in this conversation despite reservations about individual elements of the plan, in contrast to those who allow specific issues or political gamesmanship to torpedo any progress. It is critical for our political leaders to commit to the creation of a credible long-term plan, especially given our short-term spending needs during the ongoing economic recovery. We urge the President and Congressional leadership to view the majority vote of the Deficit Commission as evidence of the bipartisan agreement possible on difficult choices that the country needs to make if it is serious about reducing deficits."
