Statement by Ms. Ryan Alexander, president, Taxpayers for Common Sense on the passage of a 90-day extension of the 2005 transportation bill.

Congress just passed what would be the 9th extension of transportation legislation and lawmakers continue to fail the nation's travelers and its taxpayers. By maintaining current spending levels, Congress is driving the Highway Trust Fund toward insolvency with no solutions in sight. Despite the clamoring from the Senate, their recently passed bill is not the answer. Neither is the earlier House bill nor the President's proposal. Taxpayers can only hope Congress uses this 90 day extension to find real, fiscally sound solutions to the nation's transportation funding challenges.
