That sum would mark a 17% jump from the current military budget, as Steve Ellis of Taxpayers for Common Sense, a nonpartisan budget watchdog group, pointed out.

“A trillion-dollar Pentagon budget is not a sign of strength; it’s a sign of indecision,” said Ellis, the group’s president. “It belies an inability or an unwillingness to make strategic decisions about what we truly need to defend our nation.”
