Boston Private Financial, Inc. is a holding company located in Boston, Massachusetts. The company owns a number of financial services related firms across the country that, together, comprise the Boston Private Wealth Management Group. In late November the company announced that it would participate in the Treasury Department’s Capital Purchase Program, and would receive $154 million under the program. The company began in 1986 as Boston Private Bank & Trust.

Boston Financial has recently been discussed as a company that Morgan Stanley may acquire in its bid to enter the retail banking sector. As recently as September, Boston Financial received a $75 million investment from The Carlyle Group.
