We’re still waiting to see what Speaker Pelosi does; word has been that it will be today.

Over in the Senate, it keeps getting more interesting. The vote-a-rama on amendments (including DeMint) is supposed to be tomorrow.

What we have heard is that there may be a possible earmark “reform” amendment being offered to counter the DeMint earmark moratorium amendment. To determine whether it is friend or foe, a key thing to look at is where they member offering the amendment voted on earlier reform efforts. Namely the motion to table the so called DeMint-Pelosi earmark reform amendment to S. 1.

If you recall, after a fight, the DeMint-Pelosi amendment was adopted 98 to nothing. But just a few months later, Senate leadership gutted the provision, leaving the Senate with far weaker earmark disclosure standards than the House. In January, they were supposed to provide information about the beneficiary, location and purpose of each and every earmark. In July, they chose to bury that information.

We’ll be watching closely to see what happens. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.
