Over the past three decades, wildfires have scorched an increasing number of acres. From 2016 to 2025, there was an average of 7 million acres burned annually. In 2025, there were 77,850 wildfires that burned 5.1 million acres. As the frequency and intensity of wildfires have increased, so have the costs of wildfire suppression.
