A persistent rumor, leading up to the release of the BIF, has been that money for the Department of Defense and its well-heeled contractors would be included. Specifically, the possibility that $25 billion would be slipped in for shipyard modernization. We’re on record about what a bad idea we believe that to be.

So we carefully perused the BIF text for any references to shipyards. We’re happy to report that the bipartisan version of the infrastructure package doesn’t include any. There are a few mentions of, “constructing ferry boats and ferry terminal facilities”, but nothing about public and private shipyards.

Mind you there are plenty of “ships” in the bill. For instance:

There’s apprenticeships (and pre-apprenticeships!) and internships.

Dealerships, hardships and leadership (not as much as we would like, though.)

Memberships and mentorships. Ownership and partnerships.

Even relationships (awwww!).

Ridership. Scholarship and stewardship.

There are shippers and shipping and shipments.

Lots of funding opportunities for townships.

But NO SHIPYARDS! We’ll take that as a win.
