Today Taxpayers for Common Sense led a coalition of groups concerned with fiscal conservatism and Congressional oversight of federal spending in sending a letter to the House Committee on Rules urging several amendments to be allowed in the pending vote on the FY2021 National Defense Authorization Act.

The organizations joining Taxpayers for Common Sense were:

Campaign for Liberty
National Taxpayers Union
Project On Government Oversight
R Street
Taxpayers Protection Alliance

These organizations came together to offer support for thirteen specific amendments. The amendments range from putting another stake through the heart of the infamous “Coal to Kaiserslautern” provision to various amendments to reform the Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO) slush fund. There is also an important amendment to enforce Congressional oversight in situations where a President declares a national emergency.

We believe Members of the House should have the opportunity to take votes on these amendments to show their support for fiscally conservative spending values and greater Congressional oversight of how the Pentagon uses our tax revenues. We asked the Rules Committee to make them in order under the rule so that those votes can happen.
