Washington, D.C. - The following is a statement by Keith Ashdown, Vice President at Taxpayers for Common Sense on the Department of Defense Tanker announcement:

The Pentagon's announcement that they will delay their decision on new tankers until necessary studies are complete will ensure that taxpayers and the warfighter get the most bang out of our defense buck. Although the fat lady has yet to sing about the Boeing deal, it sounds like she's humming a few bars. The Pentagon will now complete a full review of all available options to rebuild the tanker fleet. This new comprehensive look will do wonders in restoring America's trust in the Department of Defense's fiscal integrity. The overpriced lease would stick taxpayers with a raw deal that would make a used car salesman blush. We hope that the Pentagon's decision to go back to the drawing board will result in their ripping up Boeing's gold-plated contract.
