Washington, D.C. – The following is a written statement by Jill Lancelot, President of Taxpayers for Common Sense, on the energy bill debate in the House of Representatives:

Here we go again. Instead of attempting to write legislation that fixes our energy woes, the congressional leadership is attempting to force feed Americans bad legislation that is powered by pork and out of gas. This is a feeble attempt to make a political point. Rather than solve gas prices, blackouts, or reduce our dependence on foreign oil, this legislation is an energy placebo that does nothing except break the bank while lining the pockets of big energy. This $100 billion bill reminds me of “The Night of the Living Dead” – like the zombies in the movie, no matter how many times you kill it, this shockingly bad legislation keeps coming back to life. This legislation is a bizarre hodgepodge of giveaways for the well connected and Congress needs to stop trying to recycle it and just throw it in the garbage.
